    Explore Archaeology in St. Augustine and
    Beyond

    Description:

    Join the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) for a walking tour of St. Augustine’s buried past to learn about the history of the city – and the science of archaeology. Participants will also visit FPAN’s office at historic Flagler College to learn about their program offerings and free resources provided across the state.

    The benefits of becoming a STEM-certified
    school

    Description:

    Sebastian Middle School is a STEM-certified school by UF’s Lastinger Center. One of the administration will talk about the process of certification and the STEM practices that take place within and across the curriculum. Participants will visit the STEM Lab and STEM class and will see/hear from students in regard to projects that they’ve undertaken/will undertake. There will be time for a Q &A session with the students and admin, at the end.

Robinson is also a co-founder of the New Approach to Self Achievement Project, which is a career awareness program for inner-city youth focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

    The Outstanding Teacher Recipients will also be honored.

    Description:
    The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Aquaculture will be hosting a workshop discussing the use of small desk-top aquaponic systems in the classroom. At the workshop, teachers will learn how to setup and maintain small aquaponic systems and be provided with lesson plans for hands-on learning opportunities. The first 20 teachers to sign up for the workshop will receive a free, small aquaponic system, as well as water quality test kits to utilize in their own classrooms. While only the first 20 teachers will receive a free system, those interested in teaching basic aquaculture are still encouraged to sign-up and will be provided with the same training and education resources. This workshop will be focused toward 3rd-8th grade students.

    Description:
    This session is an introduction to a new approach to science instruction called Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI). ADI gives children in grades 3-5 an opportunity to learn how to use the core ideas, practices, and crosscutting concepts of science to make sense of natural phenomena. Learn about Argument-Driven Inquiry and how it can help students learn how to explain natural phenomena while they develop science proficiency and 21st century skills. A new approach to science instruction, Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI), provides children in grades 3-5 opportunities to make sense of phenomena using core ideas, practices, and crosscutting concepts of science. ADI uses sciences to develop literacy (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) skills, while students learn important mathematical concepts.
    In this session, participants will learn about the stages of the ADI instructional model, how it was designed, and how it is aligned with your state’s Science standards, ELA, and Mathematics.

    This instructional approach also provides context to help students develop foundational literacy skills because they must read, write, speak, and listen in order to obtain, evaluate, and communicate information during each design challenge.

Description:

Teachers will experience several hands-on educational experiences based around the saltmarsh estuary at the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Weather permitting, activities may include seining, water quality analysis, and exploring the estuary habitats both using virtual reality and for real.

Description:

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is home to over 1,400 species of animals and 2,000 species of plants from around the world. Spend the day starting with a guided tour, take a train ride (included in your visit) and then finish by viewing the exhibits like the new African Forest Habitat.
