What is FAST?
The Florida Association of Science Teachers (FAST) is the state's largest non-profit professional organization dedicated to improving science education at all levels, pre-school through college. It is operated by a board of volunteers who have extensive experience in science education. The association's membership includes science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, representatives of business and industry, and others interested in science education.
It is the position of the Florida Association of Science Teachers that quality science education is important for all students facing a world where everyday decisions depend more and more on a sound knowledge of science. It is our goal to produce a society that understands the technology of its day and can make meaningful decisions as scientifically literate citizens. FAST is an advocate for science education in a variety of forms.
CONFERENCE:
The Florida Association of Science Teachers (FAST) Conference is an annual state-level event held each October designed to support, inspire, and empower science educators across Florida. Centered on achieving educational excellence, the gathering emphasizes outstanding instructional programs, innovative teaching techniques, research findings, and the implementation of new materials and equipment. Teachers and educational experts come together to collaborate through concurrent sessions, hands-on "make and take" workshops, and networking opportunities with over 50 vendors. By offering insights into current teaching trends and state requirements, alongside access to travel grants, classroom funding, and professional development, the conference serves as a pivotal forum for teachers seeking to ignite curiosity and elevate science education in their classrooms.
AWARDS:
Each year an extensive search is conducted to reward excellence in science teaching at all levels - elementary, middle, and high school science educators. These teachers are recognized publicly and with monetary awards provided.
GRANTS:
Each year classroom grants are given to members who need funding to improve science education in their classroom. Travel grants are also given to member teachers each year to assist them with the cost of attending our annual conference.
