There are a collection of STEM themed picture books, teacher guides, and STEM kits. You may share the read alouds and interactive STEM activities with your students. If you wish to purchase any books or STEM kits, they have packages that align with the FAST Classroom Grant. The author is available for some virtual and in-person school visits.
Educators can apply for a premium Discovery Education account during distance learning. This grants educators and students access to videos, lessons, and their new coding lessons that include HTML, Python, and Block coding. Educators may assign content, go on virtual field trips, find grab and go lessons, and create multimedia lessons. Parents can access daily activities that are for each grade in K-12.
Epic Books is always free for educators and during distance learning, it is free for remote access and families. There are more than 40,000 books, videos, quizzes, and other learning resources. Epic books has books at all levels, including picture books that are read aloud as well as chapter books with a wide selection of non-fiction books and books in Spanish. The selection of science videos range from National Geographic Kids to animated science shorts. Teachers can set up a classroom and assign books and quizzes and keep track of their students’ reading. Epic Books can be accessed on a computer as well as mobile devices. Also during distance learning, they are creating live content that can be streamed at home.

Mote has over 20 years of experience delivering immersive virtual experiences to classrooms. We connect your learners to our STEM subject matter experts and engage their curiosity with science demonstrations and lively animal encounters. We can see and hear your learners and they can see and hear us via private, secure interactive videoconferencing connections. Lessons are based on over 60 years of marine research at our lab and are available in 25 and 50 minute lengths with options for PK-12th grades. All programs are aligned with State and National Science standards and include supplemental media and lesson plans.
National Geographic has a myriad of free educator resources as well as professional development and certification programs. During distance learning, they have also created NatGeo@Home. Families and educators can find lessons, quizzes, videos, experiments, and other items to keep students and their families engaged and learning. There are live sessions with scientists every weekday at 2 PM Eastern Time.
There are resources for all subjects, including science, for pre-K through college. The resources include videos, interactive lessons, lesson plans, and media. Teachers can set up their own class and assign students lessons, integrate it in to Google Classroom, or use the links and embed them into their own lessons and platforms. PBS also created an academic schedule for daytime viewing for students. The PBS Learning Media platform is always free and even offers teachers an opportunity for professional development.
ScIC2 "Science is Cool" virtual unconference is hosting a live edition of StarTalk: Cosmic Queries with Neil deGrasse Tyson and his comic co-host Chuck Nice. This keynote event will begin at 9 AM PT on Thursday, May 21. Submit your question to Neil and Chuck and they just might answer it live!
This grant-funded resource is free for educators across the state. The main focus is to connect scientists with classrooms. During distance learning, they have created on-demand K-12 resources for teachers. They have professional development, virtual scientists visits, and webinars.
STEMscopes has easy to follow science experiments that are designed for distance learning. The middle school packet goes along with the life, physical, and earth and space standards. The STEM Home Activities packet goes along with the K-5 science standards.
WeatherSTEM project has created a vast amount of high quality weather education resources that are all aligned to our state’s education standards. These resources are normally only available to people associated with one of our WeatherSTEM customer sites but we have made these resources free to the public without any login needed through at least May 2020.
